That is a disturbing story. I'd heard about it on NPR, but not in that detail. The thought I was left with though was more than the problem with killing the wrong person. The discussion of the schedule and ceremony involved with the execution made it seem so odd to be that we are essentially totuing these individuals, guilty or not. The joy and mystery of life is its possibility. To completely remove that, and essentially force someone to come to terms with the last chapter of their existence, in advance just blows my mind. There is so much wrong with death penalty, the arguments for it seem inconsequential to me in the shadow of its complete absurdity. This is a true case of history's grip on culture.
